KODA ProBiome – Part of the Solution for Dog Tear Stains

simply_wendy_bannerIt was two years ago to the day that we rushed our Bichon, Jasper, to the vet in Palm Springs California.  His eyes were so swollen and he was running a 106 degree fever.  After literally 1500 miles driving back and forth over a two week period and a $3,000 vet bill, he came back to us on Christmas eve.  He was so sick and the diagnosis of Blepharitis lead to major courses of Prednisone and a Doxycycline to quell the severe inflammation.  It was a very nice Christmas present.  We do not let these sorts of things go un-acted upon.

Jasper’s battle was the trigger to start the KODA dog line because our vet was all about solving the problem, but nothing about his wellness.  Inquiring to pet insurance companies became the design architecture of our five internal supplements and five topical solutions.
Part of Jasper’s issues was and is a chronic eye drainage issue.  He is well known in his travels for eye staining.  The eleventh product that is yet to be released was the first product we wanted.  It was not only an eye stain removal product, but a product that would also reduce the potential for eye infections.  In the two years since, we have been trying to find a product that will work and we are very close to launching it.  Perhaps even in Q1 2014.

What we have discovered with Jasper and other dogs is that it appears to not be just one cause.  In Jasper’s case, it appears to be allergies to beef and grass that causes him to overproduce tears.  The bacteria that forms under his eyes causes the staining and when it over produces, the bacteria growth causes infection of the eyelids.  The product we are developing stops the infection and slowly whitens the fur around the eyes and down the bridge of his nose.  The problem is that it does not and cannot help the basic cause until we made a recent discovery using one of our own products….KODA ProBiome!

We have read pro and con stories about using probiotics for eye drainage reduction.  It inspired us to try a regimen of feeding Jasper only chicken and fish based food (we cook for him), keep him away from grass and standing water and use a stronger dose of our Probiome on his feedings.  Well, the results are remarkable and we believe that the ProBiome is doing most of the work.  We almost do not recognize him.  So, at the age of three+ it is the first time in his like that we see white all the way around his eyes, they are now normally dry and the deep stains are fading.  Wheww Hooo!

Take it for what it is worth.  We truly believe that ProBiome is one leg of a tripod of treatments to eliminate tear stains and eye infections resulting in Blepharitis.

Oh!  the staining is often attributed to only white dogs, but the reality is that black fur and brown fur dogs can and do also get Blepharitis.  The thing is that the stains from the bacteria do not always show.  Jasper’s best friend is a black miniature Portuguese water dog and she has even more drainage than Jasper.  It is just hard to see.  If you see wetness around your dog’s eyes, you need to consider using Probiome.

Dosage

Probiome calls for one pump on the food for every ten pounds of body weight for the dog.  We doubled that amount for Jasper.

Lactobacillus Sporogene Probiotic

If your dog is over 60 lbs., Probiome is not economical for this regime.  ProBiome uses a very advanced probiotic now just emerging for humans called Lactobacillus Sporogene.  It is a strain that stay resident i the gut and grows protection within the gut versus adding it constantly.  It is available from high end health food stores.  For eye drainage and infections, you can base the amount to use using the human formula which is the dosage on the bottle which is based 150 lb. Blepharitis basis weight.  For a 75 lb. dog, you would want to use half a capsule on the food twice daily.  Not, that this form of probiotic is found in some very high end yogurt, but please realize that many dogs do have allergies to dairy and are particularly sensitive to Greek yogurts.
